Read Water ("we," "our," or "us") is a fishing companion app that helps anglers read water, record catches, review private fishing spots, and receive optional AI-assisted fishing insights. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information We Collect
- Fishing records: catches, no-catch feedback, lure or rig notes, water observations, trip notes, and review history that you choose to enter.
- Location information: approximate or precise fishing spot coordinates only when you choose to save or analyze a spot.
- Photos and videos: water surface photos, fishing spot images, or video frames that you choose to import for water reading or share preparation.
- Subscription information: App Store subscription status, product identifiers, transaction state, and restore status needed to unlock Pro features.
- Technical information: device type, app version, diagnostics, and crash information used to improve app reliability.
2. How We Use Information
- Provide water-reading suggestions, catch review, private spot memory, and trip planning features.
- Protect private fishing locations during export or sharing flows.
- Process and restore Read Water Pro subscriptions through Apple.
- Improve app stability, interface quality, localization, and model behavior.
- Respond to support requests and maintain legal compliance.
3. AI Processing
AI features are optional. When you request an AI reading, relevant water observations, selected location context, photos, video frames, or fishing notes may be processed locally on your device or sent to our configured AI service provider through secure APIs.
- We aim to send only the information needed to generate the requested reading.
- We do not intentionally include personal contact details in AI prompts.
- AI output is informational and may be inaccurate; anglers should use judgment and follow local laws, weather alerts, and safety guidance.
4. Location and Private Spot Protection
Fishing locations can be sensitive. Read Water is designed around private spot memory and privacy-aware sharing. When available, export flows may remove or hide exact coordinates and photo metadata before sharing. You remain responsible for reviewing any exported content before sending it to others.
5. Data Storage and Retention
Your fishing data may be stored locally on your device and, where enabled by the operating system or app features, synced through Apple services or our cloud infrastructure. We retain information only as long as needed to provide the app, maintain subscriptions, comply with law, or support your requests.
6. Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We may share limited information with service providers that help us operate the app, such as hosting, AI processing, analytics, diagnostics, and Apple App Store subscription services. These providers are expected to process information only for the services we request.
7. Your Choices
- You can choose whether to enter fishing records, save locations, import media, or request AI readings.
- You can delete app data from within the app where supported or by removing the app from your device.
- You can manage or cancel subscriptions in your Apple ID subscription settings.
8. Children's Privacy
Read Water is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
9. International Users
If you use Read Water outside your country of residence, your information may be processed in countries where we or our service providers operate. We take reasonable steps to protect information consistent with this policy.
